A Nordic thermal village opening 2027 in Woodbury, Minnesota — saunas, Aufguss rituals, cold plunge, and warm outdoor pools on five wooded acres at the edge of a marsh.
The Ritual · Contrast Therapy
The thermal circuit: heat, cold, water, rest. Then again.
Two and a half hours, from the moment you arrive. The Nordic bathing tradition moves the body between sauna heat and cold plunge, with warm water and deep rest between rounds. Your nervous system already knows how to follow it. Here, the only sound is the marsh.
Heat
Two saunas, one steam room
The ceremonial Aufguss house, the everyday circuit sauna, and the steam room. Three temperatures of quiet, each with its own purpose.
Cold
Cold plunge, two ways
Full immersion in the cold plunge pool, or the frost locker for cold exposure without the water. Both end the same way: awake.
Water
Warm outdoor pools
A relaxation pool and two hot tubs facing the marsh, warm in every season including deep Minnesota winter. Salt scrub showers and a Kneipp path between rounds.
Rest
Where it lands
The relaxation room, the pavilion, the fire pits. Rest is where the circuit finishes its work, and the village gives it room in every season.
Aufguss: the guided sauna ritual, included with every visit
A trained guide called an Aufguss master pours water infused with essential oils over the hot stones, then moves the steam through the room with sweeping towel work, in choreographed waves of heat. Sessions run about fifteen minutes on a posted schedule, build in intensity, and end in the cold plunge.
The pavilion: sound baths, yoga, and breathwork over the marsh
An open-air pavilion faces the water, and on scheduled mornings and evenings it belongs to visiting teachers: sound baths, yoga, breathwork, led by practitioners from around the Twin Cities. Every seat comes with the option to stay for the circuit after.
No phones past the locker room.
You will not miss them.
